Let the stress begin!

Let the stress begin or let the stress reliever's begin. Although Buddy loves sports, I also love school and that is the primary goal at this institution. We all know that finals is next week but UCO has many ways for you to relax.
SPB helped many students on Wednesday with massages in the nigh. And if you missed that event then do not miss the events scheduled for today and tomorrow.
Today the Seeking Strength Support Group will be in the nigh, room 402 at 2 p.m. Then later today at 5 p.m., there will be a Smart Recovery Support Group helping students which will be located at the International House.
Students also remember that those cute Therapy Dogs will also be in the nigh today, from 3-5 p.m. They will allow you to pet and be loved by these dogs so do not forget to visit the nigh today.
Tomorrow in the nigh will be the Anger Management Support Group and the Grief Group. So do not miss out on these great events that are scheduled to help students. Take a break to relieve some stress and believe in yourself.
*Sidenote*- Do not let Finals get the best of you, accomplishments are in your future!

Basketball Season!

The UCO basketball team needs way more support then what they are getting now. These teams have been working tremendously hard and the women's team are undefeated right now. The men are 5-2, and they know how to put on a show for the audience, with dunks, fast pace, and 3-pointers.
Last Saturday both of our teams beat Northeastern State University, with no problem, I must say. But these teams need an audience, at the last game the opposing team had a bigger audience then us, at our own house. So UCO, please please please come to the next home game and show these teams some support.
Every game gives students a chance to win free coke, canes meal, or money when you enter a contest. And Buddy will also be there to take a picture, dance, or give you a hug because I know finals week can be stressful.
*Sidenote*- Come to the games because 'what would Jesus do'?  Rhetorical question by the way (Laugh out loud).

Blog Adoption!

As some of you may know, I am a Professional Media major, and this semester I enrolled in a class titled 'Blogging for Journalist'. This class is the reason I started thus amazing blog but one of the assignments was blog adoption. The professor made us find an interesting blogger and give a presentation about that blogger. So this particular blog is going to be about, Tanya Golash-Boza, whom I adopted.
Golash-Boza, is a Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Merced. Her blog is "getalifephd.blogspot.com". The purpose of this blog is to help faculty and students be a more productive writer. Golash-Boza has been blogging for five years in California. The blog has 3,000 followers and makes about $25 a month.
The style and information is what makes this blog unique. This professor has published many books while also raising three kids. I inspire to have a blog that gets 2.5 million page views like hers and everyone needs to go follow her.
*Sidenote*- Oh yea, there is no sidenote (Laugh out loud).

Moving in or Moving out?

It is that time for students to move in or out. Next week is finals week then after that is Winter break. Students are finally moving out of the dorms to go home to family. Although some students are just now moving in for the spring semester.
Buddy is such a gentlemen, helping students move in and out. And the temperature outside was cold but perfect for a sweating horse. Students were not happy about moving because of the weather, so Buddy saves the day again.
And even though Buddy was smiling, this rug was definitely heavier than it looks.
*Sidenote*- Shout out to the photographer for getting my 'good' side, (laugh out loud).

Pose for the Frame!

The last football game of the season, was so much fun and stressful at times during the game. But the UCO football team ended the season with a win.
So on behalf of the football team and the spirit team, thank you for all of the support that you gave to our team this year.
Uh oh, I bet you did not know, Buddy was going to photo bomb your picture. But let us take a minute to admit that it made the picture a little better.

I am pretty sure that I scared the mess out of the woman on the left. But that is ok, what is life without fear? Rhetorical question by the way.
But Buddy also had to take a selfie, I will admit that I might be a little or a lot conceded because I completely enjoy taking pictures.

*Sidenote*- If you have any pictures with Buddy, send them to me and I will post them. (dglover7@uco.edu) but if you don't then you will slip on a banana today (laugh out loud).

Homecoming! Cheer and Dance!

So I received some more pretty awesome photographs, that basically proves that cheer and dance was the bomb!
Hey look at the flick of the wrist, this picture is amazing and the photographer was right on time.
I was dancing and dying at the same time now that is multi-talented. I was sweating to death and one step from a heat stroke but that did not stop me from dancing. The excited lady next to me is Kendall, who is also one of our amazing cheerleaders on the squad.
This is hilarious, and it just keeps getting better and better, who said horses cannot dance?
*Sidenote*- So lets take a minute to look at the guy behind me on the left, yes, the guy with the red backpack. Hmmmm, is that the phase right before twerking? (laugh out loud).

Homecoming Parade!

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=981118225368381&id=473958556084353

That is the link to watch the full homecoming parade. The parade was amazing, I was shocked at how many people attended the parade. The weather was perfect to be mascot because it was not hot at all and the wind was hitting my face (Buddy's mouth) at the right times.
Buddy was sitting in the back of a black truck with a few cheerleaders, yes I am a lazy person so I did not walk the entire parade but I did throw candy at people. I appear in the video at about 15 minutes. The homecoming parade was short and sweet but I did think that I was going to fly off the back of the truck.
I also ate more candy then what I shared, obviously I am not very good at parades. We had a bag of laffy taffy's, I ate majority of the red ones and through all the nasty yellow ones. That makes me a considerate person right? Well who cares, God will judge me when that day comes. Plus children do not care what color the candy is, as long as they catch some.
Do you want to know how I ate the candy? Well I lifted the head a little and fed myself but it may have looked like Buddy was putting candy in his neck.
you can see my mohawk(hair) a little

*Sidenote*- I could not see where I was throwing candy and I hit a kid in the face with a laffy taffy (laugh out loud) he did not think it was funny!

Homecoming! Cheer and Dance!

Good morning people, well good afternoon but it is morning somewhere! I am not going to lie to you all, last week was the longest week of my life. Homecoming was fun and exciting but it was also exhausting and terrible. Lets just call it bitter sweet for now.
Did you know the cheerleaders, have to practice at 6 a.m? Yea, me neither until I had to wake up and go to practice with them last week so that we could practice our cheer and dance performance. My body was aching and the pain was excruciating, I am not a doctor but I am pretty sure that I was sleep deprived.
In the beginning of the performance, I get lifted by two women. One cheerleader holds my left foot and another holds my right. But the pain came from the guy who held my legs behind me. I swear he despised me because he kept jabbing his thumbs in the back of my calfs. I now have a permanent bruise in my legs.
During practice it was fun being lifted in the air, but this is because I practiced without the Buddy suit. At cheer and dance, I was lifted with the full suit on and it scared the crap out of me, I could barely see anything and it felt like I was floating above the world.
excuse the blurry photo!

*Sidenote*- This will go down in history because black people are afraid of heights (Laugh out loud).

Homecoming Week!

Check out those spirited people right there, don't we look cute? We all took this picture at the beginning of the Fall Semester.
Do you think you know which Buddy is me?
By the way, do you know what this weekend is? It is Homecoming, and I advise everyone to be there to cheer on our football team with us. This week there will be plenty of fun events, and you better believe I am going to blog about them.
I will be performing as Buddy at the cheer and dance event, I will also be at the Homecoming Parade, and the pep rally. It will be a great and exciting week for everyone involved.
*Sidenote*- I am the Buddy on the right with the big smile (laugh out loud).

I just realized that homeboy was wearing OU!

First of all congratulations to the UCO football team, because we won the game last Saturday! This game was a lot of fun for me because not only did we get 63 points but I'd like to think that we won because I am good luck!
Many of you may know Kay Robinson, Senior Director of Student and Community Engagement and Spirit Teams Advisor but did you know that her handsome son was scared of horses that stand on two feet! He did not cry but I could see the terror in his eyes when we took this picture.

I could see him staring into my smile (eyes), and all I could do was smile because I really thought I ruined his whole day but after the picture he was happy again.
Then, I took a picture with another handsome little boy but he was not scared at all, in fact, he was super excited and thrilled to give me a hug and take a picture.

But what I did not notice in this picture, was that homeboy was wearing ALL OU at my Wantland Stadium! And I honestly think that this should be a sin but do not worry, I do not blame the innocent child, I blame his parents!
After my Bronchos won the game, cheer, pom, crew, and I took a picture for Robinson. Crew sat down because I know they were tired after running those flags for 63 points but hopefully they will have to do it again and again because victory is a beautiful thing.
*Sidenote*- Life is about creating memories with the people you love and getting money (laugh out loud).

Can I just complain real quick?

First of all, let me say this, I love UCO with all of my heart but it is time for me to complain just a little bit.
I have some things that I have to get off of my chest because maybe this post will make a difference, just maybe.
Warning! What I am going to say may be disrespectful to some people, but I am sick and tired of listening to depressing music at the games.
I went to the away game in Kansas, two weeks ago and the DJ conquered the booth and we need good music at the games. This may get the boys fired up during the game.
I feel like a white person in a black church for the first time at our games. You know? Confused? Trying to dance and blend in. The music should be uplifting and it should be songs that majority of people know.
Also, at this away game, I noticed they had a track around the football field. Hmmmm WHY the heck don't we have a track field in our stadium?
Our poor track team is taking victory laps around Edmond and calling it their track. I have also never been invited to a track meet as Buddy, this has to change.
OK I am done complaining, Go Bronchos!
*Sidenote*- If the Pastor did not tell you to look at your neighbor(a stranger) and tell them "Good morning, how are you?", then you were NOT at a black church! (laugh out loud).

A crazy miracle, we did not assault each other!

Check out that cute horse!

I saw and posed for the camera with Pistol Pete, the Oklahoma State University Mascot. This was the Block Party, Tuesday night and it was a success. We gave away many prizes. There were food and drinks for the people who participated.
I hope you do not think that we were the only two crazy mascots that attended this event.
Look the Sooner (Boomer) horse came as well!
*Sidenote*- I have no idea who that lady is behind me and I did not know she was back there during the picture.

Buddy and Betz make a great team!

The Central Tech Store grand opening was Friday, September 30 at 9:00 a.m. The new Tech Store is located in the Nigh University Center and if you have not been to the store yet, then I recommend that you stop by.
I was able to join some great people that morning and I was able to cut the ribbon for the grand opening.
Call me famous now because I got to take a picture with President BetzThis was a cool day because the air conditioning was kicking just right in the Nigh and I did not have to run or jump in the suit.

Look at those two good-looking people, I will keep this picture forever and I never knew President Betz was that tall. He would probably be a great mascot as well.
*Sidenote*- I completely forgot to wash Buddy before this day so I bet President Betz had to hold his breath a little during this picture (laugh out loud).

OH NO! The rain almost took all my fur!

Woot Woot! The University of Central Oklahoma got their first football win on Saturday against Missouri Western.
This was a great game to watch even though at first I did not know which uniform was us. Do not judge me, it is very difficult to see inside a horse head but when I finally figured it out, the game was amazing.
But let me explain how the rain almost took all my fur. I was doing my thing, you know, dancing, jumping, and taking pictures. I was feeling refreshed because I had just finished my half-time break and I was ready to take a victory lap.
But that night my life changed, I was scared and I started to panic. Because the big announcer guy said that everyone needs to leave the field and get somewhere safe because a no-good thunderstorm is coming near Edmond very quickly.
Now I want all of you to be aware that, I do have morals and I am a firm believer in showers and washing clothes. So yes, I do wash the Buddy Uniform after every event but the head cannot be washed or get wet because if it does it would look like Buddy is melting.
The game was then delayed, and I had to run full speed somewhere safe for Buddy.
After the delay, even though I was not able to return as Buddy, the UCO Football team won, so big shout out to all of these men including coaches and staff!
*Sidenote*- My first year as Buddy, I was washing the basketball uniform and I accidentally dried it and all of the letters fell off into my dryer. Thank God, for super glue! (laugh out loud).

I have never seen so many women in the sky!

So I think that it is my job to tell you all about Cheerleading Nationals, I went to my first competition last year in Daytona, Florida.
There were cheerleading teams everywhere from all over the world. They were competing to be the number 1 cheerleading squad.
It was my first time being in Florida and I loved being in a hotel room that was overlooking the ocean.
I was able to perform in the competition, with the UCO Cheerleaders. I was super nervous on the stage because I knew that if I fell off the stage, it would ruin the whole performance.
I was also scared that I was going to get kicked in the face while another girl was tumbling.
The first day we arrived, I remember walking to the beach and seeing women being thrown into the air. All I could think was "What the....... women are literally flipping in the sky, they are tripping, they must not care about their lives."
This is the first photo I took and this was not even half of the teams that were there.
I can remember practicing there, day and night, everyday until competition day.
The cheerleaders were super nice to me but I can tell that they wanted to curse me out when I stepped in their way. This was more than a competition to them, this was why they cheer in the first place. This was why they put on their outfits, this was why they came to UCO.
This is why I respect them and this is why cheerleading means much more to me now then it ever has.
*Sidenote*- I was terrified of the ocean because I kept seeing jellyfish! (Laugh out loud) for real though.

Buddy- A sinful alcoholic or just stupid clumsy?

I will never forget my first football game, I was nervous, excited, overwhelmed, and burning up all at the same time.
I can remember having my hair in a ponytail which was super dangerous but at the time, I thought it was smart.
The head kept sliding on my hair, which was pulling my hair in my face. I had hair in my eyes, mouth, and nose.
I could smell sweat, more sweat, and hair grease. This was terrible because my hair was blinding me, so as I was walking to the field on the bleachers, I literally thought my life was over.
All I could think was "Come on Des'Ree, you haven't even been Buddy for 5 minutes yet." Luckily, every time that I am Buddy, I have to have a person there to help me get down the stairs.
When I finally reached the field at Wantland Stadium, there was a bucket in front of me, at lease I think it was a bucket. It might have been the football players waters, I have no clue. I cannot see anything below my waist in the Buddy suit. So of course my 6-foot, clumsy self, trips over the bucket and falls.
And I hear a UCO student yell out, "Hey look everyone, Buddy must be drunk."
Well I guess we live and we learn, I may have embarrassed myself or Buddy. But there should really be 'warning' signs on the field for people like me who have to look through Buddy's smile everywhere I go.
*Sidenote*- I now wear bandanas on my head to keep my hair in place and I promise I go to the games sober (laugh out loud).

"Hey look mom, 'roar,' can I touch him?"

There I was on September 19, 2015 at the Hurd on Heard in Downtown Edmond. I was feeling official and amazing in my Buddy suit, I was wearing the basketball uniform so the breeze was coming through the suit perfectly and that day I was so grateful for the sport basketball!
Then out of no where some crooked, no good, hateful, and snotty little boy walks up to me.

This little boy was pure evil and as soon as he walked up to me, I realized that this was the first time that I have been bullied by a 3 foot, 40 pound, 4-year-old. The 4-year-old pulled my tail, punched my leg, and said "Hey does this come off?". He was laughing the entire time while he was kicking me in my shin.

I had to take a minute to bow my head and pray because this little boy was about to get a beat down. I was 3 seconds away from being a ruthless horse that was about to get payback. Where the heck was this little demons parents at?

Then an angel walks up to me, I remember her saying, "Hey, look mom a dinosaur, Roarrrr, can I touch him?" I remember laughing to myself and then I bent down to hug her. This little girl saved a little boy's life.

*SideNote*- Watch your kids because not everyone is as patient as me. (Laugh out loud).

The turn up was excellent in West Hall!

I can remember turning up in West Hall during move-in day as Buddy.
This was super fun, I would run in the halls.

And watch students go out to their cars and get their stuff and when they come back I would jump out of the closet and scare the crap out of them or be laying on or under their bed!

I also took some more random but interesting pictures with students moving in!

I accidentally smiled for real in this picture, as if you could see my face!

I also seen a little boy walking with his dad outside of the Suites and at first he was terrified of me but when I got on the ground to his level he was more relaxed.
He gave me a "High-Five," then he asked if I would take a picture with him. Of course Buddy nodded "Yes," and posed for the frame!

*SIDENOTE*- I think Buddy looks sexy in the baseball uniform! (Laugh out loud).

The sun hated me at Mascot Camp! 9/6/2016

Good Afternoon people, I want to tell you all the first event that I did, Mascot/Cheerleading Camp.
This was an amazing event because they taught me how to be a mascot and I also met other mascots from different colleges such as OSU and OU.
This event was also very challenging because I was wearing the suit for hours and I was burning up.

The "Head" was super heavy and the basketball uniform on top of the suit made me sweat like a convict at court.
I was also learning how to walk in the suit, it is very hard to see where you are going. Because I look through the mouth and as you can see, Buddy always has a big smile on his face.

I tripped over a few curbs but I like to think that I played it off nicely.
Overall this was an amazing feeling because I was able to get to know all of the cheerleaders.
*Sidenote*- I had to kind of lean in the picture because it is very uncomfortable to sit directly on Buddy's tail (laugh out loud).

Introductory 9/1/2016

Hello everyone my name is Des'Ree Glover, I attend the University of Central Oklahoma with a major in Professional Media. I grew up in Midwest City, Oklahoma and graduated from Midwest City High School in 2013. I played basketball and ran track all through high school.
But when I came to college I realized that I did not want to play basketball for the rest of my life and instead I wanted to talk about it so I decided to go with broadcasting.

But I bet a lot of you are wondering why I have a "Horse" on my blog and that is because on May 3rd, 2015 at 3:30 p.m., I decided to go to the Hamilton Field house and tryout to be the face and biggest representation of UCO.

I have now been the UCO mascot since may 2015 and this blog will tell you all the things that I have done being mascot and the struggles that I have been through as mascot. I am happy and blessed to be able to share with you all my thoughts and now it is time to UNMASKcot Buddy, "Hooves Up."
